About the position
The Medical and Andrology Laboratory Technician reports to the Laboratory Supervisor, supporting our team by performing a range of Andrology procedures and carrying out phlebotomy and blood chemistry procedures as needed. Responsibilities include processing sperm wash, TDI, DNA fragmentation, sperm freezing, semen analysis, oxidative analysis, collecting blood and other specimens from patients, checking the quality of blood, and preparing specimens for testing; dispatching and accepting frozen sperm samples to and from other facilities; and maintaining patient result records, lab documents, log sheets, and chart results. Rotation on the schedule for long weekends and statutory holidays will be a requirement for this position. Main Duties and Responsibilities
General

Role-Specific
- Explains process of specimen collection to patients in calm and friendly way
- Plans carefully to ensure that Andrology procedures are performed efficiently
- Conducts quality tests and carries out various laboratory procedures as per protocols
- Receives donor sperm samples and picks up semen samples when IVF Administration calls for pick up
- Carries out procedures by operating equipment and hormone analyzer, as outlined in standards and protocols
- Collects blood and other specimens from patients, checks quality of blood, and prepares specimens for testing
- Collects and stores specimens in containers, at required temperature
- Assists in receiving and dispatch of frozen samples from other facilities
- Matches laboratory forms to specimens, labels these, and packages for transport
- Performs audits of equipment to ensure that this functions correctly
- Assists with maintenance of equipment and cleaning of laboratory
- Checks all test requisitions or computer label to ensure 100% accuracy
- Adheres to standardized infection control protocols
- Identifies abnormal patient conditions and alerts supervisor, physicians, or nurses
- Maintains patient result records, lab documents, log sheets, and chart results
- Assists with review of documents and updates data accurately and efficiently
- Helps prepare site for visits by certification and licensing entities
- Uses Centre’s computerized systems to collect and store data
- Performs Phlebotomy and blood chemistry procedures as needed
- Maintains clinical competence through practice, education, and research
Qualifications and Requirements
- Current CSLMS or MLPAO certification required
- Medical Laboratory Technician diploma from accredited institution
- At least one (1) year of experience working in clinical laboratory, specifically with Andrology procedures, drawing blood, using centrifuge and testing, as well as collecting, labelling, and shipping specimens
- Knowledge of regulatory standards and compliance requirements
- Comfortable with MS Office and virtual meeting technology
- Pleasant telephone manner and effective communication skills (English)
- Experience with Accuro an asset
- Strong organization skills
- Documented training in all areas of clinical laboratory
- Availability to work outside of regular business hours and rotate in weekend and stat holiday schedule, as required
