Work hours: five half days (7:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.), or three full days/wk
Range: $22.50 per hour

About the position

As a Medical Laboratory Technician, you will support the Centre by performing all phlebotomy procedures associated with the diagnostic and therapeutic treatment services provided by Anova. You will collect blood and other specimens from patients in a timely manner, check the quality of blood, and prepare specimens for testing while following established standards and practices. You will maintain patient result records, lab documents, log sheets, and chart results. Rotation on the schedule for (long) weekends and statutory holidays will be a requirement for this position. Crucially, you will share the founder’s passion for being the gold standard for successful reproductive health and fertility centres.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct tests and carry out procedures by operating endocrinology equipment and hormone analyzer, as outlined in protocols
  • Explain process of specimen collection to patients in calm and friendly way
  • Plan carefully to ensure that procedures are performed efficiently
  • Collect and store specimens in containers, at required temperature
  • Match laboratory forms to specimens, and label these as required
  • Check all test requisitions or computer label against script for 100% accuracy
  • Maintain patient result records, lab documents, log sheets, and chart results
  • Perform audits of equipment to ensure that this functions correctly
  • Assist with maintenance of equipment and cleaning of laboratory
  • Identify abnormal patient conditions and alert supervisor, physicians, or nurses
  • Prepare site for visits by certification and licensing entities
  • Use Centre’s computerized database systems to collect data
  • Maintain clinical competence through practice, education, and research
  • Perform Andrology laboratory procedures as needed

Qualifications and Requirements

  • At least one (1) year of experience working in clinical laboratory, specifically in drawing blood, using centrifuge, and testing, and labeling and shipping specimens
  • Medical Laboratory Technician diploma from accredited institution
  • Current BLS or MLPAO certification
  • ASCP phlebotomy certification preferred
  • Comfortable working with MS Office
  • Working knowledge of relevant software applications
  • Current knowledge of regulatory standards and compliance requirements
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to explain procedures to patients and check for understanding
  • Willingness to improve skills and work as part of laboratory team
  • Thoroughness and keen attention to detail
  • Availability for (long) weekend and statutory holiday rotations
