In Canada, egg donation and surrogacy must comply with the Assisted Human Reproduction Act (AHRA).
In Canada, it is a criminal offense to pay, offer to pay or advertise payment for a surrogate mother. Under the oversight of an agency, surrogates may however be reimbursed for specific expenses related to the pregnancy and submit receipts to the agency.
Aspiring parents considering using an egg donor, or gestational surrogate will be connected with a fertility lawyer and counsellor for help navigating the various considerations of growing a family through surrogacy.
Egg donors, surrogates and the aspiring parent or parents must receive medical clearance as part of the early stages of the process.
