In Canada, egg donation and surrogacy must comply with the Assisted Human Reproduction Act (AHRA). In Canada, it is a criminal offense to pay, offer to pay or advertise payment for a surrogate mother. Under the oversight of an agency, surrogates may however be reimbursed for specific expenses related to the pregnancy and submit receipts to the agency.
