CEO & Medical Director of Anova Fertility & Reproductive Health

Dr. Marjorie Dixon, MD, FRCSC, FACOG, REI, founded Anova Fertility & Reproductive Health (and co-founded First Steps Fertility in 2008-2016) after many years in practice in order to execute her vision of reproductive medicine where evidence-based medical care could be balanced with compassion for all patients who require assistance to create their families.

Dr. Dixon is a graduate of the McGill University’s School of Medicine. Her initial postgraduate training was at the University of Toronto, in Obstetrics and Gynecology. Her passion for reproductive medicine continued during her postgraduate training with a 3-year subspecialty, American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology accredited fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at the University of Vermont. Dr. Dixon is an active member of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Center and holds the position of Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto, where she actively participates in medical student and resident education. She continues to be an invited speaker at both national and international conferences in her field of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility.

Of note, she was appointed to the province’s expert panel on Infertility and Adoption which submitted its report entitled “Raising Expectations” in 2009. The goal of the panel was to advise the Ontario government on how to improve access to fertility treatments and monitoring, as well as how to improve Ontario’s adoption system. Dr. Dixon has also been intimately involved in providing more recent advice on IVF funding for the Government of Ontario’s New Fertility Program in 2015. All in all, she feels that it is primordial to ensure the safe and effective delivery of Ontario’s constituents’ fertility healthcare.

As a recognized expert in her field, Dr. Dixon is often asked to comment on newsworthy topics related to women’s health in the media. She appears monthly on Cityline as a part of their trusted group of experts often speaking to her responsibility and champion of women’s health and reproductive well-being. In April 2015, Dr. Dixon & her staff were happy to announce the arrival of a healthy baby boy named Zain. He has the distinction of being the first baby born in the world using Augment treatment. The Augment treatment is administered as a part of an IVF cycle, in which the energy-producing mitochondria (taken from egg precursor cells) is combined with sperm and added to a woman’s ova in order to improve the health of a woman’s existing eggs. This past October, Dr. Dixon attended the annual conference of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine, where she was invited to join the executive committee of the first, LGBTQ “Special Interest Group”. Its goal will be to focus on advocacy and accessibility to fertility care for all members of every community. Dr. Dixon has also endeavoured to provide educational programs geared toward the LGBTQ Community. In early 2015, she sponsored a training video produced by the “LGBTQ Parenting Network” entitled “Scenes from a Fertility Clinic – LGBTQ People & Assisted Human Reproduction”. She also is a regular sponsor of Pride week family activities, both locally and internationally.

Dr. Dixon views her role as a fertility specialist as a privilege, and prides herself on offering individualized patient care. It is her passion for her field that drives her determination to continually improve the quality and accessibility of fertility services available to Canadians-right here in our own community!
