About the position

As a Senior Clinic IVF Nurse, you will contribute to Anova Fertility & Reproductive Health by providing patients with all the information they need for a smooth and pleasant experience as they undergo fertility treatments at the Centre. The Clinic IVF Nurse will help patients understand the procedures, the choices they have and what their treatment entails. From the initial consultation through the actual treatments and the ultimate goal of having a baby, the Clinic IVF nurse will guide patients through every step with empathy and qualified guidance, in compliance with the standards and protocols established by Anova Fertility. To thrive in this role, the incumbent is required to build and maintain collaborative relationships within and outside the IVF Centre, as various functions rely on each other’s performance. You will ensure that all documentation is accessible, traceable and accurate. Crucially, you will share the founder’s passion for being the international standard for successful reproductive health and fertility centres and for making the right to family accessible to everyone.

 

This position reports to the Director of Clinical Operations.

 

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Contributes to physician’s effectiveness by identifying patient care issues, providing information pertinent to patient care plan and implementing physician instructions
  • Coordinates care for assigned patients following required Anova protocols and procedures, such as communicating cycle information to Anova’s IVF laboratory and to off-site IVF Centres
  • Books IVF procedures for patients based on cycle-timing and Anova protocols for booking procedures in EMR schedule
  • Relays procedure dates, times and instructions to patients, ensuring the patient understands the instructions
  • Reviews and explains IVF process (or other treatment plans indicated by specialists) to patients and their families, including consent forms, fee schedules, blood test results
  • Ensures that all pertinent blood test results are in chart and have been reviewed by attending physician prior to treatment
  • Documents daily laboratory results of assigned IVF patients and keeps accurate and complete data of pregnancy and cycle outcomes for BORN data submission
  • Communicates with patients via telephone, email and in person regarding test results, medication instructions and other instructions from physician and documents this communication in patients’ medical records
  • Ensures that all patient concerns and complaints are satisfactorily addressed and documented in patients’ medical records as per Company policy
  • Arranges for prescriptions, dispenses medication and keeps accurate and daily log of medications dispensed; participates in drug ordering if required
  • Actively participates in cycle monitoring and performs intrauterine inseminations
  • Takes personal initiative to maintain current RPN licensure, BCLS and other professional certification current as defined by role
  • Maintains, cleans and sterilizes instruments, exam rooms and equipment to maintain sanitary environment for provision of care according to Public Infection & Control guidelines and Anova protocols
  • Maintains clinical competence through integration of practice, education and research within specialty role
  • Performs administrative duties, including inventory, log and organization of procedure room medication, orders medical supplies
  • Actively promotes collaboration within department and between departments
  • Contributes to positive work environment, is accountable for personal conduct and actively participates in staff meetings and problem-solving
  • Assists Centre in preparing for site visitation by OHPIP or any other body that Anova Fertility depends on for certification and licensing
  • Performs audits of all equipment to ensure that this is functioning correctly and within critical parameters
  • Assists in training and supervision of trainees and less-experienced staff, participating in demonstration of procedures during training sessions
  • Works flexibly and performs tasks as workload demands, including outside of regular work hours and participates in weekend and statutory holiday rotation schedule

  • Identifies, assesses and informs supervisor of issues that may affect patients, department or Centre and makes appropriate recommendations

Minimum Qualifications and Skills

Education and Knowledge

  • Current registration with College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Registered Practical Nurse diploma from accredited institution
  • Current BCLS accreditation required, ACLS an asset
  • Member in good standing of RNO/RPNAO
  • Knowledge of policies, procedures and standards of care for AHR an asset
  • Knowledge of working with Microsoft Office programs and medical software, including eIVF and Accuro
  • Detailed knowledge of current infection control practices
  • Strong knowledge of customer service principles and practices
  • Knowledge of administrative practices and procedures
  • Understanding of how various functions rely on each other’s performance
  • English language skills required; multilingualism an asset

 

Experience

  • Fertility experience mandatory
  • Experience in sterilization an asset
  • Track record of working to highest possible standard with meticulous attention to detail
  • Working towards certification in recognized Medical Device Reprocessing course preferred
  • Track record of regular and punctual attendance and schedule adherence
  • Track record of completing tasks under pressure
